The climatic influence of the Adriatic Sea ensures long, warm summer evenings, while in the cooler season the cold air currents from the mighty Hohe Tauern guarantee many wonderful, sunny winter days.
And when in April the mountain peaks are still hidden under a thick, white blanket, the snow in the valleys has already given way to the warm spring. Nature unfolds in its most beautiful splendor and bike tours in particular are now a very special pleasure. Like on the picturesque Gail Valley cycle path (R3), which begins in Kötschach-Mauthen and runs for a total of around 90 km parallel to the Italian border to Villach. You can go on hikes or a few ski tours in the valley and on some mountains.
Summer is high season in the holiday destination Carinthia. Immerse yourself in the turquoise-blue bathing lakes or enjoy the beauty of the southernmost state of Austria on a bike or hiking trip with the family.
For many, autumn is the best time of the year to go hiking in the mountains. The hustle and bustle of the summer months is over, the deciduous trees are presented in bright colors, while the sun is already lower in the sky and the peaks around the Gail valley are bathed in a beautiful light. Now there are many events and festivals in the region, such as the “Hut Cult” and “Kitchen Cult”. Experience the breathtaking Carinthian landscape on a hike along the Carnic and Gailtaler Höhenweg. You can also start many hiking routes through the Gail Valley directly from our front door.
And in winter the nearby ski areas such as Nassfeld, Dreiländereck, Gerlitzen or Monte Lussari (Italy) or the Slovenian World Cup resort Kranjska Gora. There are also numerous winter hiking trails and of course the ice-skating paradise Weissensee.

Biking / mountain biking / racing bike
We are enthusiastic cyclists ourselves and would be happy to tell you about our favourite tours, from easy to very difficult! Choose from a huge selection of routes in the immediate vicinity – whether comfortably with the whole family, on a mountain bike or on a racing bike. MTB trails of various levels of difficulty can be found in Finkenstein am Faaker See, Nassfeld and Weissensee.
Car and motorcycle tours
With their many pass and panoramic roads, Carinthia and the Villach / Gail Valley region are a real paradise for motorcycle and car touring fans. One of the most popular pass and mountain roads in the Alps is, for example, the Villacher Alpenstrasse, which leads to Villacher’s local mountain Dobratsch. The Nassfeld Pass and the Gerlitzen Panoramastraße and of course the Malta Hochalmstraße and the famous Großglockner Hochalpenstraße offer further beautiful panoramic routes. The three-country day tour, which leads over the Nassfeld to Italy and on to Slovenia, is also a special experience. In particular, the Nassfeldpass and the Vršičpass offer plenty of curve fun and the beautiful Sočatal is always worth a trip anyway.
Thermal baths and Spa Resorts
Would you like to really relax for a few hours? Then enjoy a wellness day in the Alpen-Adria Hotel or in the Alpin Spa Schluga on Lake Presseggersee. A hit for children and adults is the KärntenTherme in Villach Warmbad with water slides, a white water channel and a nice, large wellness area.
